PETALING JAYA (August 4): Following complaints from residents in the area, starting Aug 15, cars who park along two roads in Section 5, Petaling Jaya will be fined.

The Star quoted Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran, who said: “We have put up notices on both roads to inform everyone of the new move to stop cars from parking indiscriminately.”

Jalan 5/58B leading to the main entrance of Cameron Towers is often clogged with parked cars in front of the double-storey terraced houses.

“It makes it difficult for owners of the apartment as well as homeowners to access the narrow road when it is filled with cars,” he said to the daily.

Nearby Jalan 5/58, meanwhile, has two rows of shop lots that include grocery shops, a veterinarian, offices, and a pet groomer. Those visiting the establishments often park by the side of the road, a no-parking zone.

Residents of Maxwell Towers on Jalan 5/58c have difficulties in getting to Jalan 5/46a, because of the congestion caused by the parked cars. The condition worsens at the start and end of the work day, when residents leave for their drive to work.

“We are giving everyone two weeks notice so they can’t say they were not informed about the move,” he said.

Summonses will be issued by Petaling Jaya City Council enforcement officers, who will visit the neighbourhood daily once the ruling begins.

Rajiv told the Star that a similar measure may be implemented in Section 11, Section 17 and Section 14.
