KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): It may have been entertaining watching “Planet of the Apes” on the big screen but it is a different matter altogether when primates invade your home.
This was the experience of a couple in Pulau Aman in Seberang Perai, Penang after the roof of their house was damaged by a storm a few days ago.
Another “storm” took place when monkeys in the jungle near the house took advantage of the roofless abode and decided to treat the couple’s home as a buffet spread -- the primates ransacked the kitchen for food.
“The whole place was in a mess with food all over the floor,” housewife Zaliha Noordin, 60, told the StarMetro.
“The estimated cost for the repair is about RM6,000,” she said.
The storm was also a frightening event for Zaliha
“The wind was so strong that the roof panels started to shake.
“Then suddenly, there was a loud noise and the entire roofing was gone.
“I could see the dark sky above and rainwater started to pour down into our kitchen.
“Fearing for our lives, we quickly fled and took shelter at our neighbour’s place that night,” Zaliha told StarMetro.
The monkeys saw the opportunity to invade the roofless and humanless house.
Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto said Zaliha’s house would be repaired soon.
Kasthuriraani was visiting victims of the storm in the area.
