KUALA LUMPUR (June 7): Will Raj’s Banana Leaf Restaurant in Bangsar be allowed to operate again or will it be closed for good.

We will have to wait a bit longer to witness the fate of the “famous” restaurant as the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) licence committee meeting scheduled for today has been postponed.

The meeting was supposed to decide if the restaurant’s licence should be revoked permanently.

According to a The Star Metro News report, the postponement was due to Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department chairman Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff not being available to lead the meeting.

“We received the proprietors' reply (to the show-cause letter) yesterday evening," he said Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department director Anwar Mohd Zain.

He also said that the meeting will be rescheduled but did not specify a new date.

"We will set a new date for the meeting as soon as possible,” he said.

It was reported yesterday that Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin is for the restaurant’s licence to be revoked for good.

Amin Nordin “wants the place shut down permanently to send a strong message to all eateries in the Kuala Lumpur”.

“I want to send a strong message to everyone that this is unacceptable.

“We have been too kind, and that’s why we have all this bad practices. This type of news is giving the city a bad name,” he said.
