Chryseis Tan

KUALA LUMPUR (March 7): Chryseis Tan (pictured), daughter of Berjaya Corp Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan, is "actively engaged" in works for the group's second Four Seasons project in Okinawa, Japan, according to a Malaysia Tatler report.

This was revealed in a recent interview with the magazine where she said "business is in her blood". Chryseis, who recently made headlines when she married Naza Group heir SM Faliq Nasimuddin, is also currently head of marketing for Four Seasons Hotel and Residences, Kyoto.

The Berjaya Group launched its first Four Seasons Hotel in Kyoto, Japan, in November 2016. At the time, it was also revealed that the group would build a Four Seasons hotel and hotel residences on the 100-acre site in Okinawa, which it expected then would be completed in four years.

The Four Seasons in Okinawa would mirror the concept of the Kyoto one, with a number of private residences that would be sold to wealthy individuals, according to news reports at the time.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Tatler's report noted that Chryseis, who is also executive director of Berjaya Assets Bhd, is also growing the portfolios under the group's umbrella, which include the opening of a third Greyhound Café franchise in Malaysia.

Berjaya Assets Bhd, through its wholly-owned Berjaya Assets Food Sdn Bhd, has the exclusive right to establish and operate Greyhound Café, which originated from Bangkok, Thailand.

Outside her father's empire, Chryseis also recently invested in an online fashion and beauty marketplace, Goxip.

"I can't remember a life without business. My own business ventures outside of Berjaya Group are not huge, but they are growing and I am happy watching them hit milestones, one step at a time," she said in the interview.

The mobile-first app she owns and invested in has managed to raise US$5 million (RM19.5 million) through investments led by Hong Kong-listed company Meitu, a global innovator in mobile technology including short-form video social platform, photo and video editing applications and smartphones for selfies.

Funds raised are to finance Goxip's expansion into new markets in Southeast Asia, and enter into strategic partnerships with mid- to high-end fashion and beauty brands across the region. — theedgemarkets.com
