PETALING JAYA (Nov 29): The Rawang Bypass opened at 6am today and is expected to cut travel time between Serendah and Selayang during peak hours to 30 minutes from up to two hours previously.

The new 9km bridge is expected to benefit about 30,000 motorists daily and cut congestion by half, according to a Bernama report.

The bypass was opened by Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof yesterday, who said the structure was outstanding as it had the highest infrastructure in Malaysia at 58.2m.

"This bridge will also provide an attractive experience for road users as it will be 'among the clouds' in the morning especially after it rains," he said.

The bridge was built at a cost of RM628 million from July 16, 2005, to Nov 21 this year.
