This is the fifth straight day Malaysia has experienced a single-digit number of new infections since June 29.
Of the three new cases today, two were local transmissions involving foreigners while one was a Malaysian who was infected while overseas, according to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the lone case involved a Malaysian who had returned from Turkey, which meant that no local transmissions were recorded today.
The decision to close the hiking spot was made under Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 after photos of long queues of hikers waiting to enter Broga Hill went viral on social media.
Of the four new cases reported today, three were imported.
“Our projection model shows that in mid-July, so maybe within next month, if we are still complying with the SOPs, we will record zero cases, and that is our mission,” Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a media briefing yesterday.
Two were imported cases involving a Malaysian and a non-citizen who were infected while abroad.
