The Penang government has urged Putrajaya to clarify the status of the 1Malaysia Maintenance Fund (TP1M) because it was not included in the recently tabled 11th Malaysia Plan.

“There was no mention of whether the TP1M programme was being continued. If it isn’t, what happens to the applications pending approval?" said Housing, Town and Country Planning state exco Jagdeep Singh Deo.

He said there had been 144 applications since the fund was established  in 2013. However, only 26 applications have been approved. The rest are pending.

Under TP1M, Putrajaya will bear 90% of the maintenance costs of  public low-cost housing and 70% of low-medium-cost housing schemes whose applications are successful. Maintenance includes general repairs to roofs and water tanks.

“I have written to the Director of the Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Ahmad Zaki Ansore Mohd Yusof, for confirmation. We are looking forward to a positive reply,” said Jagdeep after handing out RM1.7million in aid for the maintenance projects to 10 public housing bodies.

The housing aid is distributed under the state Housing Assistance Programme of Penang. The state funds 10% of the maintenance cost of low-cost housing and 30% of TP1M’s 90% for low-cost housing and 70% for low-medium cost housing.
