SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is going to the ground to get property owners to settle their assessment arrears which stood at RM54.1 million last December.
MBSA public relations officer Shahrin Ahmad said the first operation was carried out on Jan 19 against nine premises under the industrial and trade category in Section 17, 24 and 25.
"Through that operation, we are collecting RM102,843 from the property owners either in lump sum payment or in instalments," he said here on Thursday Jan 28.
"The operation will continue at premises in areas under the MBSA's jurisdiction as some property owners had not paid their assessment rates for the past five years," Shahrin said adding that stern action would be taken against those who failed to pay up, including sealing their premises and taking them to court under Section 148 of
the Local Government Act 1976.
"Property owners should realise the importance of settling their assessment rates as the MBSA requires funds to render services like waste disposal, lighting, and cleaning of roads and drains," he added.
For enquiries on assessment rates and payment, the public can call MBSA's Revenue Management Division at 03-55105133 ext 477/203/522. -- Bernama
