IPOH (Perak): The Perak state government is planning to set up a structured housing programme for ex-servicemen in appreciation of their contribution to the country, Perak Menteri Bsar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said.

He said the state government had instructed district officers to identify suitable areas for the programme.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Second Brigade Infantry headquarters in conjunction with the 77th Army's Day on Friday April 2, he said the state government would also look into the request by the armed forces' cooperatives to provide special housing areas for ex-servicemen. Asked on the number of ex-servicemen involved, he said, it was not known yet.

Some of those who were serving in a particular area or outside the state might want to remain there upon retirement, he added. He paid tribute to the armed forces, saying it was because of their deeds that the country was able to defend its sovereignty. -- Bernama
