PETALING JAYA (Oct 31): S P Setia Bhd is back as the Malaysia's top property developer having clinched the No 1 spot of The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers’ Awards (TPDA) 2016.
This marks the ninth time that S P Setia has clinched the top spot since The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards was introduced in 2003. Last year, S P Setia was in 4th place.
“It is good to be No 1 again and we are absolutely delighted and also honoured as we are chosen by our peers in the industry. I would like to thank my team as this is a result of teamwork and perseverance, so it’s everyone’s effort.
“Going through this lower period, I think now [that] we’re back to No 1 again, the next thing we would like to do is to start growing and expanding again as we were consolidating in [the] last three years,” said its president and CEO Datuk Khor Chap Jen.
IJM Land Bhd remained in second place this year. The rest of the top 10 are Sunway Bhd (No 3), Sime Darby Property Bhd (No 4), Mah Sing Group Bhd (No 5), Eco World Development Group Bhd (No 6), UOA Development Bhd (No 7), Gamuda Bhd-Property Division (No 8), IGB Corp Bhd (No 9) and UEM Sunrise Bhd (No 10).
This year is also the first time that Eco World Development Group (EcoWorld) made it onto the list. Last year, EcoWorld’s president and CEO Datuk Chang Khim Wah took home The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property CEO Award.
The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers Awards’ sub award the Best in Quantitative Attributes went to UOA Development Bhd while the Best in Qualitative Attributes was won by Sunway Bhd.
The TPDA anchors The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards. The awards were presented at a gala dinner tonight where Malaysia’s leading property developers and industry experts gathered to recognise and honour the industry’s leaders and top achievers.
“We launched the awards in 2003 to recognise the country’s top property developers who have shown consistent financial strength and delivered quality products to their customers to be used as home or as an investment asset.
“The industry is going through a challenging period, there is no doubt about that. But just as good times do not last forever, neither do the bad times. And as the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going,” said The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO Ho Kay Tat in his speech.
Also at the gala dinner to present the awards were managing director and editor-in-chief of TheEdgeProperty.com Au Foong Yee and editor of City & Country Rosalynn Poh.
The Edge Malaysia Pioneer Development Award, which is a new award that recognises innovators in the property industry whose development concepts initiated new trends in the property field, went to Sime Darby Property’s Subang Jaya and Tropicana Corp Bhd’s Tropicana Golf & Country Resort.
Group CEO and managing director of IJM Corp Bhd Datuk Soam Heng Choon and managing director of Gamuda Land Sdn Bhd Chow Chee Wah received The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property CEO Award, which honours CEOs whose leadership have grown their companies to new heights.
Meanwhile, The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property Entrepreneur Award, which recognises industry leaders who have contributed significantly in growing their companies was presented to Glomac Bhd’s co-founder and group executive chairman Tan Sri FD Mansor and co-founder and group executive vice-chairman Datuk Richard Fong Loong Tuck.
Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd’s Kuala Lumpur Sentral CBD, IJM Land’s Seremban 2 and Eastern & Oriental Bhd's Seri Tanjung Pinang won The Edge Malaysia Property Development Excellence Award.
Bandar Setia Alam Sdn Bhd, subsidiary of S P Setia, took home The Edge Malaysia Affordable Urban Housing Excellence Award for its Seri Kasturi Apartment in Bandar Setia Alam while Sime Darby Property Bhd’s SUCI — Phase BAIA received a special mention.
The Edge Malaysia-PAM Green Excellence Award, which was jointly created with Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), went to Masjid Ara Damansara by Sime Darby Ara Damansara Development Sdn Bhd, subsidiary of Sime Darby Property and University College of Technology Sarawak and Technology Park by Edusar Resources Sdn Bhd.
The Edge Malaysia-PEPS Value Creation Excellence Award, which was created in partnership with the Association of Valuers, Property Managers, Estate Agents and Property Consultants in the Private Sector (PEPS) to recognise developments that have provided outstanding rewards to their purchasers in terms of capital appreciation, went to Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd’s Pangsapuri Kemuning Aman and Sime Darby USJ Development Sdn Bhd’s Avani at Bandar Bukit Raja in the residential category.
The merit awards went to Metro K.L. City Sdn Bhd’s Parcel G @ Pelangi Seri Alam and Gamuda Land’s Enya, Ambang Botanic 2 as well as Gamuda Biz Suites for the non-residential category.
