Sunway Property appoints Chung Soo Kiong as new MD, succeeding Sarena Cheah

• In his new role, Chung will oversee Sunway Property’s overall division, managing both domestic and international operations.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 14): Sunway Property, the property arm of Sunway Group, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Chung Soo Kiong as its new managing director.

Chung succeeds Datin Paduka Sarena Cheah Yean Tih — daughter of Sunway Bhd (KL:SUNWAY) founder Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah — who assumed the role of executive deputy chair of Sunway Group on Jan 2 this year.

Chung brings over 20 years of experience in property development and construction within Sunway Group.

The industry veteran joined Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd in 1997 and served as the contract manager of the business development and marketing department.

He then acted as the country manager and project director of Sunway Innopave Sdn Bhd (Abu Dhabi branch) from 2007 to 2013.

After his stint in Abu Dhabi, Chung took up the role of deputy MD of Sunway Construction Group Bhd (KL:SUNCON) in 2013 before he was promoted to the position of MD in November 2015.

Chung was further promoted to group MD of SunCon in January 2020, before he passed the baton to his successor Liew Kok Wing in April 2022.

Most recently, Chung served as MD of Sunway Property’s international division, where he led regional ventures and key projects across markets including Singapore and China.

In his new role, Chung will oversee Sunway Property’s overall division, managing both domestic and international operations.

He will be supported by Sunway Property chief executive officer for Central & Northern Region and Sunway Property & Facilities Management CEO Chong Sau Min, along with Sunway City Iskandar Puteri CEO Gerard Soosay.

“Building on the strong foundation laid by Datin Paduka Sarena and the incredible team, I look forward to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that not only meet but exceed the expectations of our communities and stakeholders,” said Chung in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sarena, in her new role at Sunway Group, will focus on expanding the group’s international presence and overseeing the development of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri into a world-class township that attracts global investments and promotes regional tourism.

“It has been a privilege to lead Sunway Property and contribute to its remarkable journey. I am confident that under Chung’s leadership, the division will reach even greater heights.

“As I take on this new role, I remain steadfast in advancing Sunway’s vision of building a sustainable future for generations to come,” she said.

In addition to Sarena’s new board appointment, Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib has been named deputy president of Sunway Group.

He will oversee core business divisions, including Sunway Property, Sunway Malls, and Sunway Healthcare.

Anuar has served as an independent non-executive director on Sunway’s board since July 2023.
