KUCHING (Nov 19): The Federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) allocated RM51.55 million for 233 public infrastructure initiatives in Sarawak this year, the State Legislative Assembly was told today.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian (pictured) said said additionally, RM700,000 had been allocated for 10 projects under the Safe City Programme (Program Bandar Selamat) aimed at enhancing safety and livability in urban areas.

“The Federal Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP) has allocated RM1.995 million to upgrade 13 tamu (jungle produce markets), while the Federal Ministry of Economy allocated RM2.06 million for 16 minor infrastructure projects through the Inisiatif Kemudahan Rakyat (IKR),” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also the State Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said this when winding up debate on Sarawak Budget 2025 for his ministry.

He said KPKT had also allocated RM6 million to repair 300 houses in the state under its Urban Poor Eradication Programme (PPKB).

“To date, 289 house repair projects have been completed (while) a total of 16 houses have been newly built out of 43 houses approved with an overall allocation of RM2.72 million,” he added.
