KPKT minister: A strategic and inclusive budget for all

PUTRAJAYA (Oct 29): The Housing and Local Government (KPKT) minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican described the newly announced Budget 2022 as a strategic plan that covers every aspect, including socioeconomic, strengthening businesses and the health system to facilitate the country moving towards recovery.

In his Facebook posting after the Budget 2022 announcement today, the minister lauded the policies and measures announced by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz which emphasises social agendas and people’s safety in the post-pandemic era.

“With the “Keluarga Malaysia” concept in mind, the RM332.1 billion Budget 2022 has taken a holistic approach that is inclusive and aims to create greater economic impact to all,” he said.

Reezal Merican said KPKT is blessed with the allocation to manage and develop affordable housing programmes, strengthening urbanisation plans and fire rescue services; and these efforts will have a spillover effect for all Malaysians.

For instance, the RM1.5 billion allocation for the Rumah Mesra programme and public housing upgrading programme will benefit the low-income group.

Meanwhile, he also lauded the government's measure of offering a housing credit guarantee scheme (RM2 billion) to assist gig workers and small traders without steady income to apply for a mortgage loan as this measure could encourage homeownership.

“And of course, the proposed waiver of the real property gains tax (RPGT) for property owners who sell their properties after the sixth year is definitely good news for property owners,” he said.

He also commented that the government is taking the welfare of the low-income group into consideration as there are measures to improve their living environment, such as the allocation of RM30 million for Internet facilities in 40 existing People's Housing Projects (PPR).
