KUALA LUMPUR (July 30): Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered surged to 19.5 million as the country recorded another record high of daily jabs at 556,404 yesterday (July 29).
This was the fourth consecutive day the country administered over 500,000 doses. The previous record high was 553,871 shots posted on Tuesday (July 27).
In tandem with the increasing number of daily doses, the seven-day moving average also rose further to 494,859 from 487,809 previously.
Of the 556,404 shots delivered to arms yesterday, Operation Surge Capacity in the Klang Valley contributed 239,318 jabs, according to latest tweets by the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).
In the Klang Valley, 143,197 people were administered with their first dose, while 96,121 completed their two-dose vaccination yesterday.
The JKJAV said that cumulatively, a total of 5.41 million people or 87.8% of the adult population in the Klang Valley had received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 2.01 million people or 32.6% who were fully inoculated.
Also as of yesterday, 13.18 million individuals or 40.4% of the nationwide population had received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 6.32 million individuals or 19.3% who were fully vaccinated.
Malaysia has been ramping up its vaccination rate sharply, with an eye on achieving around half a million daily vaccinations in order to meet the government’s accelerated target of immunising the country’s entire population against Covid-19 by October.
The country reported 17,170 new Covid-19 cases yesterday — down a little from a record high of 17,405 the day before — and 97.7% of the latest infections showed little or no symptoms.
The Klang Valley, comprising Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, recorded 9,385 new infections or 54.7% of yesterday’s cases, with 7,163 in Selangor, 2,138 in Kuala Lumpur and 84 in Putrajaya.
Active cases that carry high transmission risk climbed further to a new high of 179,179 from 175,113 previously as new infections continued to outpace daily recoveries — for a month now — of 12,930 yesterday. Total recoveries stood at 890,742 versus the country’s cumulative confirmed infections at 1.08 million.
