KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): The beds (pictured) in the rooms of the Tokyo Olympic Village became the centre of attention when it was reported that the cardboard made furniture was allegedly designed to be “anti-sex”.
This came about when runner Paul Chelimo tweeted that the cardboard beds are made for just one person and according to him “is aimed at avoiding intimacy among athletes. Beds will be able to withstand the weight of a single person to avoid situations beyond sports”.
But this claim has been “debunked” by athletes from Israel led by a Ben Wanger when they experimented to see how much weight the Tokyo Olympic Village beds can actually take.
The result: The bed only broke when nine people jumped on it at the same time, reported USA Today.
“Anyone got an extra bed for me?” quipped Wanger in a TikTok video of the experiment which has since been removed.
Meanwhile, a media release by the organiser have explained that the cardboard bed frames made by Japanese bedding company Airweave can hold up to 200kg.
