Malaysia's daily Covid-19 vaccination rate rose to 197,274 doses on June 28 — JKJAV

KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): Malaysia administered 197,274 doses of Covid-19 vaccine yesterday (June 28), up from 168,956 doses a day earlier. 

According to the latest tweets by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), 154,279 individuals received their first doses, while 42,995 persons got their second doses yesterday.

However, the seven-day moving average of Covid-19 vaccination dipped to 220,283 doses — from 225,761 doses the day before. 

According to National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the government has revised its targets upwards to administer 300,000 doses per day from July and 400,000 per day in August.

In total, 7.59 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered across the nation so far, comprising 5.46 million first doses and 2.13 million second doses, according to JKJAV.

At least 16.7% of the population had gotten their first dose, and 6.5% of the population were fully inoculated as of yesterday.

Among the states and federal territories, Sarawak reported the highest cumulative number of first doses administered at 992,043, or 35.2% of its population, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 958,203 or 54% of its population.

For second doses, Selangor recorded the highest cumulative number of shots administered at 275,098, or 4.2% of its population, followed by Sarawak at 240,232 or 8.5% of its population.

Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded 5,218 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, with 57 more deaths reported as the national death toll breached the 5,000 mark at 5,001. 

It was the sixth consecutive day that new cases remained above the 5,000 level.

The latest infections represented an 8.55% positivity rate from 61,025 people tested across the country in the 24 hours as of noon yesterday.

Note that in order to advance to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan, the average number of daily new Covid-19 cases in the country needs to be below 4,000.  

Besides that, the public health system should be out of the critical stage, with the rate of bed usage in intensive care units (ICUs) returning to moderate levels, and 10% of the population should have received two doses of vaccine injection.
