KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): Malaysia posted 6,999 new Covid-19 cases today, a 22% decline from yesterday’s record of 9,020 cases, bringing total cumulative cases in the country to 565,533.

Of the total 6,999 cases, 6,995 cases were local transmissions, while four were import cases comprising three Malaysian citizens and one non-citizen.

5,121 new recoveries were reported, bringing the total to 484,787, while 79 deaths were reported, translating into a cumulative death toll of 2,729.
There were 846 cases being treated in intensive care units, with 419 patients requiring the assistance of ventilators.
A total of 17 new clusters were reported today, comprising two clusters each in Johor, Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Sarawak and Kelantan, three clusters in Kuala Lumpur and one each in Perak, Pahang,Terengganu, and Negeri Sembilan.
During the press conference earlier today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia’s R-nought (R0) rating currently stands at 1.16, with the number of cases showing an exponential uptrend.
“The number of beds at ICUs, Covid-19 hospitals, and Covid-19 quarantine and centres is declining and will likely be at maximum capacity.
“MoH has warned that situations may come up that doctors will have to make the difficult decision in picking which patients will get beds in ICUs, based on their likelihood of recovery,” he said.
