KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): “At least a dozen staff and several patients” at Hospital Serdang (pictured) were infected with Covid-19 this month, said a Malaysiakini report today.
Sources told the news portal that infections involved nurses and specialists “in several departments and wards” that “were first detected early this month”.
Among the departments “affected” are “the cardiology and cardiothoracic department”, said Malaysiakini.
The report also has sources revealing that “several departments in Hospital Serdang are under pressure after both infected staff and those who had contact with them were placed under quarantine”.
The sub-district of Dengkil, where Hospital Serdang is located, had reported 129 cases over the past two weeks.
A Bernama report yesterday “confirmed” with the Selangor Health Department that there were Covid-19 infections among patients and health workers in Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang.
Selangor Health director, Datuk Dr Sha'ari Ngadiman said Klang’s status as a Covid-19 red zone and the increase in severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases being treated at the hospital could most likely cause the rise in Covid-19 cases.
He said 50 HTAR employees who had been infected with Covid-19 were being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital currently, adding that the investigations had not identified the source of infection yet.
"The situation, however, is under control and patients at the hospital are still being treated. All close contacts have undergone the swab tests and placed under the home surveillance order. All patients in contact with the infected cases have also undergone the same tests,” he said in a statement.
