PETALING JAYA (Dec 11): The Selangor Covid-19 Task Force (SCTF) has called on residents of the state to avoid travelling as cases are spiking, reported Malaysiakini.

SCTF head Dzulkefly Ahmad (pictured) said 90 percent of the 1,428 new Covid-19 cases reported yesterday involved workplaces, such as the Teratai, Seruling, Perigi, Bah Manggis, Usaha and Sri Jujur clusters.

"This is the main reason for the spike in Selangor. The balance are cases that are not related to clusters or 'unlinked cases' which occur sporadically in the community," the news portal reported Dzulkefly saying.

But he also explained that there could be a "spillover" to the community from the workplace Covid-19 clusters.

So, Dzulkefly said the whole state can be considered a "red zone" and urged residents to “resist the urge to travel”.

"It is important for the people of Selangor to resist the urge to return to their kampung by crossing district or state lines.

"We might bring the virus back to the kampung, to our parents and families whom we love even if we are asymptomatic," he added.

Bernama today reported PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) anticipating higher traffic volume following a long weekend in Selangor.

Its managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said that apart from long weekend for the Selangor residents in conjunction with the Sultan of Selangor’s birthday today, this weekend also marks their first major travel window following the lifting of inter-state travel restrictions announced last Saturday.
