KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 8): The Ministry of Health today announced two new clusters of Covid-19 infections detected in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur with 123 confirmed cases.

One of the clusters is the Seruling cluster in Selangor — involving three districts namely Klang, Hulu Selangor and Petaling — with 109 positive cases recorded.

The index case of the cluster tested positive for Covid-19 on Dec 4 through screening at workplace, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

As of today, 2,267 individuals have been screened so far.

The other cluster is the Darul construction site cluster which spans Titiwangsa, Cheras, and Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur;  Petaling, Sepang, Kuala Langat, and Klang in Selangor; as well as Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, with 14 positive cases recorded. Some 240 individuals in the cluster have been screened.

Dr Noor Hisham said in his statement that some cases of the cluster were reported positive for the virus on Dec 6 through targeted screening at workplace, involving a construction site.

There have been 392 clusters in Malaysia, including the two new clusters today. A total of 207 clusters have ended — as no new cases were reported in 28 days.

These include the Melati cluster in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, the Kempas cluster in Johor, the Titir cluster and the Tempayan cluster in Sabah.

The number of active clusters now stands at 185. From that total, 41 clusters reported additional cases today, with the most coming from the Teratai cluster in Selangor (78 cases), Batu Tujuh cluster in Johor (52) and Ria-30 cluster in Sabah (33).

Malaysia logged 1,012 new Covid-19 cases, lifting the nationwide total cases to 75,306.
