KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): The enforcement of the conditional movement control order (MCO) in most parts of the country is meant “to protect green zones in the country” such as Perlis, Pahang and Kelantan, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pictured) explained today.
“We want to limit cross-border, cross-state and even cross-district movements, so this is our approach. We need to protect the green states, for example, Perlis, Pahang and Kelantan.
“In Sarawak, Kuching is under the conditional MCO but we need to protect the green areas (in Sarawak).
“We do not need to wait until all the zones become red, then only we take action. That’s too late,” Dr Noor Hisham was reported saying by Malaysiakini in Putrajaya today.
“As long as there is movement, there is exposure and risk to infection. There will be no back to normal, that’s why this is a new norm because the virus is already in the community.
“We need to live with the virus and to survive, we need to adapt to this new environment in terms of practices to prevent infection,” he added in a Bernama report.
He said that MCO started on March 18, where almost all sectors were shut down, “it took the country about three months to contain and tackle the virus”.
“Therefore, with the experience the government gained from the MCO, it is crucial to balance the economy and livelihoods by allowing the sectors to resume and continue, but with some restrictions,” he added.
