KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): Ronald "Khalis” Bell, a co-founder, singer and producer of the pop group Kool & the Gang, has died at 68 years of age, the Associated Press (AP) reported today.

The report stated that Bell passed away in his home located in the US Virgin Islands yesterday morning with his wife by his side. The cause of his passing has still not been made public.

Malaysians of the older generation are familiar with the songs from the group which were played over airwaves before the age of the Internet and commercial radio stations.

They include Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie and Summer Madness.

Kool & the Gang also won a Grammy in 1978 for their work in the soundtrack for mega-hit movie Saturday Night Fever, which shot John Travolta into stardom.
