KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases rose slightly to eleven today, from nine reported yesterday, bringing total cases in the country to 9,114.
Notably, none of the new cases are linked to existing clusters.
There were no new Covid-19 related deaths, with the toll remaining at 125 for the 12th straight day, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Thus, the mortality rate in the country stands at 1.37%.
Meanwhile, active cases in the country rose to 172 from 169 reported on Tuesday, leaving only one Covid-19 patient in the intensive care unit.
On the other hand, eight more Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the total recovered patients nationwide to 8,817 or 96.7% of overall cases.
Of the 11 new Covid-19 cases, eight were imported cases while three were locally transmitted, said health-director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
According to his statement, the eight imported cases who were infected from abroad involved seven Malaysians and one foreigner.
The eight had returned from Singapore (three cases), the Philippines (three cases), Australia (one case) and Japan (one case).
“Two locally-transmitted cases involving Malaysians were detected through screening of symptomatic cases in a medical centre in Kedah. They [the patients] have been admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Kedah. These two cases are not closely related to each other.
“The locally-transmitted case involving a foreigner was from screening of a new detainee at the Tawau Police Station lock-up, Sabah,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
