KUALA LUMPUR (July 18): Many Malaysians are now experiencing "caution fatigue" over the Covid-19 pandemic and this is risky, Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said today.

Lee was reported saying by The Star that such caution fatigue will “create a sense of complacency which will negate all the good efforts that have been achieved so far in tackling Covid-19”.

"We cannot rule out the risk or possibility of Covid-19 resurgence, if we let our guard down and are complacent.

"We have done well since the outbreak and our efforts in flattening the curve have been recognised. We are on the road to recovery so we must do everything possible to ensure our success and efforts so far will not go in vain," he said in a statement.

Lee reminded Malaysians to stay vigilant and that “the virus is still in our midst and the enemy is invisible”.

"While we are proud to note that many are wearing face masks in public places, there still are many who are not doing so in crowded places, where there is the possibility of the spread of the disease. Some have been seen wearing their face masks on their necks and not on their faces," Lee said.

"Everyone has a responsibility to ensure that there is no Covid-19 resurgence, as has happened in some countries," he said.

He said self-discipline, self-control and self-enforcement “are our best ways to ensure a speedy recovery” he added.
