KUALA LUMPUR (May 12): Malaysia’s Covid-19 new cases dropped to 16 today — the lowest level in two months.
The previous low was on March 11 — seven days before the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced — with 20 new positive cases.
Today’s figures are also the lowest since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was imposed nine days ago.
Of the 16 new cases, nine cases involved foreign nationals, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that 13 were local transmissions while the remaining three were imported.
Of all the new cases reported today, 12 cases were detected in Kuala Lumpur, three in Selangor and one in Sabah.
This brought the number of cumulative cases in the country to 6,742 since the outbreak began early this year in Malaysia.
In contrast, the number of recoveries was almost 10 times the number of new infections, with 110 people cured and discharged today.
With this, the number of recoveries has risen to 5,223, bringing the recovery rate to 77.5%.
Meanwhile, active cases have fallen to 1,410 from 1,504 reported yesterday.
There are currently 16 patients receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, with only three requiring respiratory assistance.
Based on the latest information from the MoH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), no new death cases have been reported. Thus, the death toll in the country remains at 109, translating to a 1.62% mortality rate.
