IPOH (May 7): Restoran Kok Thai (pictured) has been the venue for many wedding dinners over the years in this city. It was also the go to place if your family had guests from out of town or another country.

But the Malay Mail reported yesterday that the restaurant famous for its Chinese style seafood has closed for good.

The news portal spoke to a staff named Ling who “confirmed” the closure, saying: “Yes, the restaurant is now closed permanently. It closed in mid-April.”

“The restaurant used to host a lot of wedding dinners. However, these have ceased due to the MCO [movement control order].

“Due to that, the business might have suffered a loss. Also, it could be due to a drop in the number of tourists,” she said.

It has been reported in recent weeks that a number of hotels here have also shuttered permanently as a result of the Covid-19 situation.

They are Tower Regency Hotel and Apartment Sdn Bhd, Syeun Hotel and Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites.
