KUALA LUMPUR (April 14): A Pew Research Center survey revealed that third of Americans believe that COVID-19 was manufactured by people in a laboratory, The Guardian reported yesterday.

The report stated that Pew surveyed 8,914 American adults, asking if they believed that 1) the current strain of the coronavirus “came about naturally”; 2) “was developed intentionally in a laboratory”; 3) “was made accidentally in a lab”; or 4) “doesn’t really exist”.

According to the British publication, 43% believed that COVID-19 “most likely came about naturally”, while 29% said it “most likely was created in a lab”.

In addition, those who believed that the coronavirus was created in a laboratory, 23% of them also believed it was manufactured “intentionally”.

A quarter were not sure where the virus originated, while 1% believed that the virus does not exist!

As for the political party affiliations of those surveyed, Pew found that “those most likely to believe in the conspiracy were Republicans or Republican-leaning independents”, reported The Guardian.
