ALOR SETAR (April 9): Kedah state government permits selected non-essential businesses to start operation during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, these include car and machinery repair workshops, fishing nets repair shops, selected construction activities and rubber products procurement companies, as reported in China Press today.

The Chinese daily quoted Kedah Industry and Investment, Local Government and Housing Committee chairman and Derga assemblyman Tan Kok Yew, saying that construction activities only limited to urgent needs, such as to repair roof leakages or electrical wire system that threaten occupiers’ safety, whereas house renovation works are not permitted.

In a press statement yesterday, he also mentioned that selected retailers who are in agricultural supplies such as fertilizer and pesticides; hardware stores; agricultural machinery parts seller, as well as stores selling animal feed and medicine, are allowed to operate two days a week (Monday and Sunday) from 9am to 4pm.
