KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): The Health Ministry's preliminary probe into the high number of cases in the Kluang district detected at least four clusters of infection there, reported Malaysiakini.

"From the preliminary investigation, the four clusters might be connected to the tabligh gathering in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

"Four index cases had attended the gathering and maybe after they returned to the village and they attended weddings there, as well as attended congregational prayers with the villagers, and spread the infection," Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told the media earlier this evening.

Kluang has so far seen a total number of 88 positive cases, with 74 cases found in Kampung Dato Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato Ibrahim Majid

As a result, the areas are now under a total lockdown or the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) which started today.

Noor Hisham also revealed that four COVID-19 deaths were also linked to the spread of the virus in the two areas.

Late yesterday, senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the authorities were imposing an EMCO for the two areas from midnight yesterday until April 9.
