KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): Health director-general (DG) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced another death from COVID-19 today that was reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), bringing the death toll in Malaysia to 17.

In his Facebook posting, Noor Hisham said the 66-year-old man who passed away at 4.10am this morning was also suffering from several chronic diseases.

The deceased began showing symptoms a week before being admitted to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar on March 20.

The patient arrived in critical condition at the emergency department and required breathing assistance the same day.

According to Noor Hisham, the deceased was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 21 and was subsequently in rapid decline.

The source of infection is currently being investigated.

So far, there are 1,624 COVID-19 cases in Malaysia.
