KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): Sime Darby Bhd said its chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad has been preliminary tested positive for COVID-19 and is now put in a healthcare facility.  

The group said in a statement today that Abdul Rahman has not visited any of its premises for the last 18 days. 

"Sime Darby is working with the relevant authorities to ensure the health and safety of its employees, including proactively identifying those who have been in close contact with its chairman," it added. 

Meanwhile, Sime Darby also announced that all of its Malaysian premises will be closed from tomorrow till March 31 and all its Malaysia-based employees will work remotely, in line with the government's movement control order. 

"Sime Darby is committed to doing its part in mitigating the spread of Covid-19," the group said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the movement control order to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

The order entails comprehensive restriction on movements and public gatherings nationwide, including religious, sports, social and cultural activities.

It also includes a shutdown of houses of worship and business premises, except for supermarkets, public markets, and convenient stores.

Shares of Sime Darby closed up three sen or 1.79% at RM1.71, with a market capitalisation of RM11.63 billion.
