KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): Owing to the spike of COVID-19 in the country, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that education centres, government and private offices are to shut down from March 18 to 31.

All public and private institutions of higher learning and skills training institutes nationwide will also be closed.

Essential services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, transport, fuel, broadcast, finance, banking, health, firefighting, ports, airports, security, defence, retail and food supply willl function as usual. 

There will also be a shutdown of all houses of worship and business premises except malls and markets.

Also included is a total ban on mass movement and gathering including religious, sports, social and cultural activities nationwide.

Muhyiddin appealed to Malaysians to comply with the restricted movement order as responsible citizens

The prime minister also urged Malaysians to remain calm as government strives to check COVID-19 outbreak.
