PUTRAJAYA (March 12): It has now turned out that Malaysia’s first sporadic case of COVID-19 can actually be traced to the religious event in a mosque in Sri Petaling, reported The Star.

The New Straits Times (NST) reported that a sporadic case been detected in Malaysia yesterday.

A sporadic case means that the COVID-19 infected individual “did not have any travel history to affected countries or contact with an infected person”.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed today that since the infection has been traced to a source, it cannot now be called sporadic.

“The individual tested positive for Covid-19. However, after investigation, the patient was found to have attended the religious event at Masjid Sri Petaling. Therefore, this is not a sporadic case," Dr Noor Hisham said during a media conference after a multi-agency working committee meeting on COVID-19 here today, reported The Star.

Meanwhile, it has been reported the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) Klang will impose visitor restrictions with immediate effect, following an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

HTAR, in a statement posted on its official Facebook account, said the move was implemented to reduce the risk of infection among patients, visitors and hospital staff.
