KAJANG (Jan 21): It is hard being a municipal council at times. The Star yesterday reported that the municipal council (MPKj) here attempted for three times to “seal” a confinement centre for mothers and newborns, but failed.
MPKj councillor Lim Kim Eng told the daily that officers sent to take action could not do so since “no one answered the door”.
Lim also said that MPKj personnel planned “to seal the premises twice earlier but did not do so on humanitarian grounds as there were mothers and their newborns in the centre. The operator was issued notices to vacate the premises in two weeks but it was ignored on both occasions”.
"It was learnt that the centre has been operating since November last year,” Lim revealed.
In the latest action, MPKj was reported to only manage “to confiscate some items such as cooking and cleaning utensils”.
