IPOH (Dec 20): The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will hold the monthly Ipoh Car Free Day in Greentown here this Sunday (Dec 22).

The event would involve the Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil stretch between Persiaran Bougainvillea near the Ipoh Convention Centre and the junction at Persiaran Greentown 11 junction, reported The Star today.

A trial run would be conducted for MBI to identify any resulting impact on traffic flow and counter-solutions for any potential issues for residents and shop owners in the area.

"Because of the yearly increase in visitors and participation from agencies, the event is no longer suitable to be held at Jalan Raja Dihilir," it said.

The Car Free Day programme began in 2015 and happens on the fourth Sunday of every month between 6.30am and 10.30am.

Other roads to be closed include Persiaran Bandaraya and the junctions at Persiaran Tugu, Persiaran Greentown, Jalan Wan Mohd Salleh and Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil.

"Those heading towards the Greentown Business Centre from Jalan Raja Ashman Shah can enter through Jalan Dato Seri Ahmad Said, Persiaran Greentown 11 and Jalan Chin Choon Sam.

"It is hoped that the shift in location will provide more convenience to visitors and activities to be held at Dataran Ipoh and Padang Sultan Abdul Jalil.

"The initiative will be continued to make Ipoh a low-carbon city," MBI stated.
