KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 25): An overcast Monday morning did not dampen the spirits of some 15 community members from the PPR Seri Cempaka public housing scheme here in Pantai Dalam.

They showed up as early as 8:30am to begin cleaning the freshly-paved sports court before starting the process of applying sealant in preparation for painting works to be carried out later.

With a more favourable sunny weather later on, the combined efforts of the members enabled the court to be completely sealed with two layers of acrylic sealant in just under three hours.

The refurbishment of the outdoor sports court is under the Sayangi Rumahku campaign which will see the facility receive a colourful makeover over the next few days with volunteers from PPR Seri Cempaka, EdgeProp.my, Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd and Nippon Paint Malaysia.

"There should be more projects like [Sayangi Rumahku]. For example, this project is an excellent platform to educate the PPR community. We get to work together, know each other better. It also discourages youths from engaging in unhealthy activities. At the end of the day, the refurbished sports court benefits everyone, and we are grateful for that," Syarifuddin Fahmi told EdgeProp.my. He was the group leader for the community members present today.

"Sayangi Rumahku is the first campaign of its kind here in PPR Seri Cempaka. It is an  opportunity for me to get together with my friends to help refurbish the sports court.

"I am very happy to be a part of this and I am eagerly awaiting for the court to be completed!" exclaimed Nur Qamarina who is one of the volunteers helping out today. She added that while PPRs have their fair share of social problems, campaigns like Sayangi Rumahku will be able to prevent just that - an excellent pastime for youths especially during the school holidays.

The Sayangi Rumahku campaign is a joint effort by EdgeProp.my, Paramount Property and Nippon Paint Malaysia in support of the National Community Policy or Dasar Komuniti Negara (DKN) formulated by the Housing and Local Government Ministry which aims to improve the lives of the B40 group.
