SHAH ALAM (March 21): The state authorities have sent eviction notices to 15 Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) tenants who have failed to pay their RM250 monthly rents and for violating the terms of their tenancy such as subletting their units, reported the Malay Mail today.

“Our enforcement activities is being conducted against errant tenants did not pay their rent consistently, with one having arrears amounting up to RM25,250; involved in subletting their units; trespassing into empty units; and those who are not the registered tenants,” State executive councillor for Housing and Urban Living Haniza Mohamed Talha was reported telling the media at the Selangor Assembly today.

Haniza told the news portal that the state government had “served multiple notices to these tenants reminding them of the terms of their tenancy, but had been ignored”.

As result, authorities have no choice but “to enforce the law as there were others who have been on the PPR waiting list a long time for a unit to become available”.

Haniza explained that the stubborn tenants must still pay their arrears even if they are evicted, with the state government being open “to discuss a suitable repayment plan”.

The Malay Mail reported that “ten of the public housing project units are located at the Kota Damansara PPR and five units at the PPR in Hicom, Shah Alam”.

Haniza also revealed that one of the recalcitrant tenants also “assaulted” an officer giving out an eviction notice last month.

A police report has been made over the “assault”.

Electricity and water supply to the 15 PPR units has been cut.
