PETALING JAYA (September 25): An access ramp that goes through the residential neighbourhood of Taman Ukay Bistari in Ampang will be opened despite protests.
The Star reports that the ramp was built last year by a private developer, in order to connect to Jalan Ukay Bistari 2A for residents of a new condominium project in Kampung Pasir.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) press relations officer Norhayati Ahmad was quoted saying that the developer’s application to build the ramp as an access route for the housing project had been approved.
“The infrastructure plans for the housing project and ramp was approved by MPAJ in 2012.
“MPAJ will stick to its decision as the ramp has been built,” she said.
The daily reports that Taman Ukay Bistari residents protested and built a concrete wall at the end of Jalan UB 2A, last year, as the ramp was being built.
Taman Ukay Bistari Residents Association chairman Ghazali Mohamad said that an access route that cuts through an existing residential area was ridiculous.
“Jalan UB 2A is a narrow two-lane road. If the ramp is open, motorists from the condominium and surrounding areas in Kampung Pasir will use this road as a shortcut to the Middle Ring Road 2.
“Our roads cannot support that much additional traffic,” he said.
Their concrete wall is set to be demolished, but it has been postponed following talks between Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib, MPAJ and residents.
“This ramp should not be opened. There is a safety issue as the road is too narrow to be used as an access road,” said Saari.
“During a meeting with MPAJ last year, it was decided that the ramp would not be opened and the developer would have to find an alternative access.”
He said that he would raise the matter with MPAJ and the developer.
