PETALING JAYA (Sept 3): Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd, a company that belongs to Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir, son of Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, will file a counterclaim against interior design firm Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd for a sum in excess of RM2 million.

In a press release today, Ivy Craft said it refutes the claim by Tatum (KL) which is suing him for RM2,188,178.69.

Tatum (KL) had on Aug 20 filed a suit with the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, claiming it was owed the amount by Ivy Craft.

Tatum (KL), the former interior designed of Abu Bekir's bungalow project, said it had a contract that was “unlawfully terminated” and it was thus eligible to be paid for all services rendered including damages and costs.

“Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd’s claim against Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd is for failure to perform its obligations under its contract notwithstanding substantial payments having already been made to Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd.

“Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd had communicated its intention of pursuing a claim against Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd via a letter of demand dated 30.7.2018 seeking repayment of monies previously paid to Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd, due to its breaches and failures.

"This suit filed by Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd appears to be a reaction to Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd’s letter of demand issued on 30.7.2018 in which Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd had intimated an intention to pursue legal redress should Tatum (KL) Sdn Bhd continue to fail to repay Ivy Craft Sdn Bhd the outstanding sums owed to it," it said.
