PETALING JAYA (June 6): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has not completely implemented the zero-rating of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on all parking.

DAP Socialist Youth national secretary Bryan Lew claimed there are still some parking charges that include the 6% tax. He provided images of the parking receipts to The Sun Daily — those with the 6% tax and those without.

"Why [is] DBKL still charging GST 6%, which [is] clearly shown in the receipt as 'Termasuk GST 6%' which means the fee is inclusive of GST 6%?" Lew asked in a statement issued today.

"I have come across some which I believe [are] caused by system discrepancies and negligence to conduct any thorough checking before issuance of parking receipt by DBKL. I am surprised how DBKL is charging, not charging or absorbing the GST on the parking fee.

"Has DBKL conducted thorough check on this before rolling out the revised system to avoid such ridiculous mistake? I strongly doubt it."

The Sun Daily also reported that DBKL executive director (planning) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said DBKL will check with its sole parking operator, Vista Summerose Sdn Bhd, adding that immediate action would be taken to rectify the issue.
