PETALING JAYA (Feb 5): An American woman was arrested on Saturday (Feb 3) after assaulting several policemen and firemen with pepper spray at a condominium along Jalan Persiaran Dutamas, reported the New Straits Times.
A team of firemen from Sri Hartamas fire station were deployed to help the police open the unit, following a police report lodged by the unit owners claiming that their tenant — a 42-year-old American woman — had refused to move out on Thursday (Feb 1).
However, upon their arrival, she pepper-sprayed the officers before shutting the door on them.
“A total of eight policemen and five firemen were affected and they were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for treatment,” Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R Munusamy said in a statement.
The tenant had also pepper-sprayed the unit owners — a married couple — when they tried to open the unit and change the locks on the door.
A spray bottle labelled “Bear Attack Pepper Mace” was confiscated from the woman.
According to its manufacturer’s website, the spray is a “safe, humane and effective way to protect yourself from possible bear attacks while hiking, fishing, camping, and biking”.
“The powerful magnum fogger delivers an extreme blast that reaches up to 35 feet!”
Munusamy said that the woman will be remanded under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and the police have informed the US Embassy about the matter.
