PETALING JAYA (May 3): A total of 11 Rumah Selangorku projects, amounting to 2,820 units of affordable homes, will be completed by the end of this year, according to the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

Since 2014, a total of 140 Rumah Selangorku projects have been launched, of which one has been completed, 23 are ongoing, while 116 have yet to commence, as of April 2017, an LPHS spokesperson told TheEdgeProperty.com on the sidelines of the Skim Pengenalan Pengurusan Kehidupan Strata (SKORA) on May 2.

SKORA is a strata living community awareness programme that involves students currently staying in non-landed homes.

The scheme was introduced in 2015 and is organised by LPHS in collaboration with the local government’s Commissioner of Buildings, Selangor Education Department and selected schools.

The objective of the scheme is to provide early exposure to the future generation of non-landed property residents on the fundamentals of strata living such as responsibilities in paying service charge and utility fees, and in maintaining the common properties.

In 2016, the scheme has been carried out in secondary schools such as SMK Ideal Heights, Selayang; SMK Taman Jasmin 2, Kajang; and SMK Seksyen 18, Shah Alam.

In 2017, the scheme has toured SMK Putra Perdana, Sepang; SMK Puchong Perdana, Subang Jaya; and SMK Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya.

These schools were selected based on their locations, as they are surrounded by non-landed homes where approximately 80% of the students are living in.

According to a survey by LPHS, about 70% of the public school students who have attended the programme have managed to grasp the concept of strata living.

“We want to tackle those who are living in apartments and flats. The response that we have gathered from these students is good.

“It is important to teach them about strata living because due to land scarcity, many of them may not be able to buy a landed home in the future, hence we need to let them know the importance of building a good strata living community,” he said.

Based on the feedback from the students who have attended the programme, he said among the facilities that the students hope that their future non-landed homes will have are built-in facilities such as wifi, mini library, proper waste management systems, lifts in good condition and ample parking spaces for residents.
