KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 17): Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sri Shahril Mokhtar will be stepping down from his post at the end of the year to pursue other career options.
According to a statement today, MRT Corp said Shahril who was appointed as the group's CEO on Jan 5, 2015, will not have his contract renewed when it concludes on Dec 31, 2018.
Shahril said he would “cherish every moment I had with MRT Corp, especially highlights such as the opening for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, Malaysia’s first MRT line, and the commencement work of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya line”.
The group’s board of directors met on Dec 14, 2018, appointing MRT Corp Director of Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah as its acting CEO, pending the government’s selection of a suitable successor.
This development comes in as the group’s second line the MRT-Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya line (MRT2) is currently in the midst of construction.
The MRT2 will serve a corridor with a population of two million people stretching from Sungai Buloh to Serdang and Putrajaya.
It will have a total length of 52.2km, consisting of 38.7km of elevated tracks and 13.5km of underground tunnels. — theedgemarkets.com
