KUALA LUMPUR: Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd's 1,000-acre property in Ulu Tiram, Johor is set to become a high-end, integrated and gated community.

And the main draw to this development will be a Greg Norman-inspired, 18-hole, US PGA-sanctioned golf course. Maju Holdings has appointed the golfing legend, also known as the “The Great White Shark”, to design the course. The yet-to-be-named “Ulu Tiram project” is Norman's 75th golf project.

"Developing Ulu Tiram has always been my dream. The place has the sun, space, water, pristine and plush flora -- it would be a sin not to develop it to its full potential," Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd group executive chairman Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed said in his speech during the signing of the agreement ceremony here on March 16.

The developer expects work on the golf project to begin in 2H2010 and hopes to get it up and running in 18 months.

Norman, who visited the site in Johor earlier in the day, said: "It is a magnificent site. The views, terraces, atmosphere -- one of the most beautiful sites I've seen. We will guarantee that the project will be the shining light coming out of Malaysia."

The project will include lakeside bungalows, premium condominiums, office blocks, private hospitals, a specialist medical centre, sports rehabilitation centres, resort and spa facilities.
