KUALA LUMPUR: Australia-based StayWell Hospitality Group will operate a four-star hotel at integrated development Taragon Puteri KL, located next to Berjaya Times Square on Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur.
The Park Regis KL is expected to begin operations in January 2011. Apart from the hotel, Taragon Puteri KL will also feature serviced residences and limited retail lots.
Bluestone Group Malaysia announced on Aug 23 that its subsidiary Taragon Capital Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TCM) signed an agreement with StayWell unit Park Regis Hotel Management Sdn Bhd (PRHM) for the latter to manage the hotel component of Taragon Puteri KL throughout its development and from the date of its opening.
The 27-storey hotel will contain 445 suites, sized from 35 sq m to 120.3 sq m, and will include studios, one- and two-bedroom suites and presidential suites aimed at leisure and business travellers.
Park Regis Kuala Lumpur will feature conference and banquet facilities, a swimming pool and a fully equipped gym, seminar rooms, a business centre and a business lounge, restaurant and bar as well as a security car park for 133 vehicles
The appointment of StayWell follows the termination of a prior arrangement with Rendezvous Hotel International Pte Ltd. Although the reason for the termination was not disclosed, TCM has appointed a Singapore law firm to review its options, including taking legal action against Rendezvous.
For StayWell, this will mark its maiden venture into the Malaysian hospitality scene. The group is the owner and operator of the Park Regis and Leisure Inn hotel brands, which cater to mid-market and more up-market guests respectively.
The group’s current portfolio stands at 24 properties located in some of Australia’s major cities such as Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart as well as regional areas such as Launceston, Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains, Cairns and Townsville, among others.
Work on Park Regis Singapore and Park Regis Kris Kin, Dubai, is currently underway and are expected to open sometime in October or November.
“We are pleased to be moving forward with a new partner. This signing marks a new beginning for TCM and along with StayWell; we hope to open the hotel in January 2011. We have full confidence in StayWell and look forward to a long and successful partnership with them,” said TCM in the statement.
Meanwhile, StayWell group chief executive officer Simon Wan said this appointment reinforces the group’s international expansion strategy.
“Malaysia, with Kuala Lumpur in particular, is such a vibrant destination – quite fitting as the latest location for a Park Regis property to launch. We are very excited about the addition of this property as this represents a strategic geographic location for our hotel network in the region, particularly considering the soon to open Park Regis hotels in Singapore and Dubai," Wan said.
