KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Housing and Local Governments expects the rate of successful applications for development plans to increase to 95% from 89.3% currently if its newly launched One Stop Centre (OSC) Online is effectively implemented.

"We have started the OSC Online at seven pioneer local authorities [PBTs] in 2008. We have expanded it to another 11 PBTs last year. This year, we hope to roll out to all PBTs in the country," Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha told a media conference after launching the OSC Online on Feb 2.

Kong said the move could elevate Malaysia's position in the "World Bank Competitiveness Report" and raise foreign investors’ confidence when all government-related procedures and processes are quick, easy and transparent.

With OSC Online, developers can submit their development plans online without having to put in copies of plans manually to the local authorities.

He added that OSC Online not only reduces cost but also allows developers or professionals to submit development plans online anywhere and anytime.

Kong added that the approval period has also been shortened to within 120 days compared with between one and two years previously.

The government had invested RM3.8 million under the Demonstration Application Grant Scheme at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to develop OSC Online.
