KUALA LUMPUR: The government is implementing 25 People's Housing Projects (PPR) involving 32,762 units in Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.

He said the projects implemented by the National Housing Department include four in Kuala Lumpur, which had been completed and handed over to the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry.

"The four projects are PPR Lapangan Terbang Lama 2 (920 units), PPR Bersepadu Pekan Kepong (948), PPR Bersepadu Bukit Jalil 1 and PPR Bersepadu Bukit Jalil 2 (1,896 each)," he said in a statement here on March 23.

PPR Bersepadu Pekan Kepong comprising three 18-storey blocks costing RM51 million was built on a 5.395ha site. The Certificate of Fitness for Occupation (CF) was received last month.

"The PPR project will be occupied latest next month. It is proof that the government and ministry is serious in implementing PPR projects for the benefit of the people."

The building cost was undertaken by the federal government while state governments were responsible for preparing project sites and selecting buyers and tenants using the computerised open registration system.

Kong said PPR projects are targeted at low-income groups including squatters with household income of less than RM2,500 monthly.

Each PPR unit is rented out at RM124 per month and sold at RM35,000 in peninsula Malaysia and RM42,000 in Sabah and Sarawak. -- Bernama
