SHAH ALAM (Aug 14): Datuk Zaini Yusoff will be taking the posts of president and CEO as Datuk Choong Kai Wai will be retiring from S P Setia on Sept 30, 2025. Zaini, who joined S P Setia from I&P Group Sdn Bhd in 2017, has been serving as chief operating officer since 2023. He has more than 37 years of experience in engineering and corporate leadership.

“His strategic leadership has been pivotal in transforming Setia’s operations and delivering complex, large-scale projects,” stated S P Setia in a statement today.

Beyond S P Setia, Zaini was re-elected as chairman of the Real Estate and Housing Development Association (REHDA) Selangor (2024–2026) and is also the current deputy president for REHDA Malaysia.

“He plays a pivotal role in shaping the industry policy and advancing sustainable development. His diverse career includes roles at Penang City Council, Asia Control Systems IMPAC (Improve Management Profitability and Control) Sdn Bhd, and leadership in construction project management,” added S P Setia.

Choong, aged 65, will retire after serving the company for more than 15 years and since 2021 as president and CEO.

“Under his leadership, Setia achieved strong financial performance driven by sustainable growth, robust sales, de-gearing, growth capital optimisation, and industrial parks establishment. His tenure has transformed Setia into a leaner, more resilient, and future-ready organisation,” stated the company.

“Datuk Choong has played a vital role in shaping Setia’s journey, and we hold his enduring contributions in the highest regard. The board is confident that Datuk Zaini will provide the strategic leadership needed to steer the company forward, strengthening our position as a leading and progressive property developer,” said S P Setia chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail.
