Samaiden secures RM52m contract to build solar power plant in Sungai Petani

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1): Samaiden Group Bhd (KL:SAMAIDEN) has secured a RM52 million contract to build a 14-megawatt large scale solar photovoltaic power plant in Sungai Petani, Kedah, in a related-party transaction.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Monday, Samaiden said its unit Samaiden Sdn Bhd was awarded the two-year contract by Legasi Green Power Sdn Bhd.

The group said its managing director Datuk Chow Pui Hee and executive director Fong Yeng Foon, who are Samaiden's major shareholders, are also indirect shareholders of Legasi Green by virtue of their shareholdings in Angelaxy Power Sdn Bhd and Asanaga Sdn Bhd respectively.

Legasi Green is owned by Angelaxy Power (30%), Asanaga (30%), and Greenviro Solutions Sdn Bhd (40%). Angelaxy Power, in turn, is wholly owned by Chow, while Asanaga is wholly owned by Fong. The company is principally involved in renewable energy generation through harvesting of solar energy for electricity production.

Meanwhile, Samaiden is an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning solutions provider for renewable energy projects that include solar photovoltaic, biomass and biogas systems.

In January, Samaiden, together with its consortium partner JS Solar Sdn Bhd, had bagged a RM100 million contract from NUR Renewables Sdn Bhd to build a 50-megawatt solar power plant in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah. NUR is the exclusive power utility firm for Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
