• Offline 16 will encourage participants to spend 16 hours offline to take part in fun activities and workshops, with the ultimate goal of raising awareness of mental health.

PETALING JAYA (July 16): Tropicana Corporation Bhd and Australian-owned healthcare company VitaHealth Malaysia recently announced their collaboration on the Offline 16, Malaysia’s longest offline event. Offline 16 will be held on Aug 17, 2024, at the Grand Ballroom of Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, and is open to Tropicana’s residents and members of the public.

“Widespread exposure to digital platforms and gadgets has emerged as one of the main contributors to the global mental health crisis. Inspired by these insights we initiated Offline 16, an empowering event that will raise awareness to the importance of unplugging from digital devices. By partnering with Tropicana, this joint effort will bring a myriad of benefits to the participants – offering sensory, personalised, and impactful experiences,” said VitaHealth (Malaysia and Singapore) CEO Dr KS Beh.

Other collaborators for the event include the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), The Malaysia Book of Records, Watsons, and Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, amongst others. The event is set to create a new record for the longest offline event in the Malaysian Book of Records.

Participants of Offline16 can expect to enjoy activities like badminton sessions with national badminton player Pearly Tan, and a stand-up comedy performance by Douglas Lim. Participants can also look forward to art therapy sessions, live band performances, yoga, fitness activities, and arcade games. Upon completion of the 16 hours, all participants will also be rewarded with 1,500 points with Tropicana’s T360 platform.

Offline 16 aims to encourage participants to look beyond their phones for sources of fun and engagement, and to raise awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing.

The MMHA and VitaHeath will also be hosting a series of mini workshops at the event, which will cover topics such as the importance of human connections in a digital age for sustaining good mental health. Attendees of these engagement sessions will receive a certificate of participation.

“At MMHA, we have an unwritten rule that we never turn people away empty handed. In 2023, we provided 4,000 hours of therapy sessions. While that figure might not seem huge, what we need to recognise here is that a majority of that figure consisted of subsidised or sponsored services. All this is made possible by our partners, supporters, and donors. MMHA would like to normalise help-seeking behaviour and further the discussion on the sustainability of mental healthcare services,” said MMHA executive director Cheong Sue Jen.

On Tropicana’s end, this event marks a significant new chapter in their ESG commitments. Speaking to EdgeProp, deputy CEO Khoo Thian Shyang discussed how Tropicana’s journey began with sustainable townships, and this motivation continues to the present, with plans to include more innovative features into future and existing projects such as larger, open green spaces and AI to enhance residents’ wellbeing.

Tropicana Corp senior general manager Serena Lim said that “in continuing our commitment to sustainable property development, we have plans to sign off on a long-term collaboration with GreenRE for our landed and high-rise projects in the Klang Valley.”

“On the social front, we have our collaboration with VitaHealth on Offline16, but we are also working on future collaborations with SPCA and a charity initiative for elderly care and nursing homes. As for governance, Tropicana is currently rated four stars on Bursa Malaysia, and has consistently maintained high quality standards and policies in this aspect,” Lim added.
